  Holidaymakers travelling to Egypt are being warned to take care over the next two days as the troubled country - which has been in the
  grip of often violent political turmoil since the Arab Spring revolutions began four years ago
  - votes on a new constitution.
  
  Although there is no suggestion that the vote will affect the Red Sea resorts that are the most popular Egyptian destination for British and European tourists,
  visitors have been advised that the next 48 hours could see demonstrations and tensions on the streets.

  The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has updated its advice to say that
  the situation in Egypt could be changeable, and that travellers should be observant.
  
  
  "A referendum on a new constitution will take place on 14 and 15 January 2014. Protests and disruption to travel around the country are likely," the FCO

  "You are advised to take particular care in the vicinity of polling stations and government buildings, and to avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings.
  
  "Before embarking on a journey, seek information about any disruptions to your route and consider your travel plans carefully."
  
  The two-day vote is hugely controversial, as it is seeking to bring in a fresh Egyptian constitution.
  
  The proposed new charter would replace the constitution that was passed by the government of then-president Mohamed Morsi during his 12 months in charge.
  
  Morsi was ousted by the Egyptian army at the start of July - and this week's poll has effectively become a vote on whether the military were right to stage this intervention.
  
  
  
  
  All calm on the seafront: Resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh are unlikely to be affected by the vote
  
  
  
  The result is almost certain to fall in favour of the interim government, as supporters of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood party have promised to boycott proceedings.
  
  Violence and protests are possible. Some 200,000 police officers are out in force, supplemented by security teams and a visible uniformed presence.
  
  Flashpoints have already occurred in Cairo - where an explosion was triggered in the Imbaba district this morning - and in Bani Suef, south of the capital, where one person was killed earlier today.
  
  "The atmosphere at demonstrations can change quickly and without warning,
  " the FCO continues.
  
  "Police may use water cannon tear gas, birdshot or live ammunition for crowd
